Matisse

After our visit to the Matisse 'Cut-outs' exhibition at Tate Modern, the Art department spent the day experimenting with some of the techniques and ideas that  they had seen. The Remove, Inters and LTs worked with print, cut out paper and cyanotypes (some of which can be seen below) to produce a range of lovely work as a response to the experience.

Important Goodbyes !

RUTH WRIGHT PALMER and STEPH KIRKMAN

To mark Ruth's leaving school after a fantastically successful A2 year we are showing more of her Rothko and Twombly inspired acrylic pieces. Ruth developed the motif of the box and drips, and includes the text studied for her Drama A level in the paintings

Steph examined themes of urban space, crowds, context and identity in both still and moving imagery during her A2 year. By experimenting with layering in her photography and altering time/speed in her filmmaking she manipulated the viewer's perception of busy spaces and the way we move through them.

Both girls have been fantastic students, a very positive presence in the Art block and a great example to the younger girls. We all wish them the very best of luck in the future !

Photographers Gallery trip

The Study 1 Photographers had a fantastic time in London on tuesday. They spent the day at the Photographers Gallery and particularly enjoyed 'The Lure of Soho' exhibition, a collection of the wonderful portraits by John Deakin from the early 1960's which included some famous images of Deakin's contemporaries Lucien Freud and Francis Bacon. As all 6 girls will be applying for Photography/Film courses next year it was fortunate timing that they also had  the opportunity to see the ‘Freshfaced & Wildeyed' exhibition which is an inspiring collection by 22 of this years best BA and MA graduates.
